We've put together some instructions for how to manage your imagery using Adobe Photoshop and they are outlined below. Note these steps would be the same if using another image editor like Affinity Photo or even online tools like Pixlr Editor.
We do recommend Adobe Photoshop or Affinity Photo as the best options for product image managment.
Resizing a Portrait Image
This is a tall/vertical image and has a larger height dimension than width.
1. Open Photoshop
2. Click File > Open and browse to the product photo on your computer you wish to edit
3. Now your image is open, click Image in the top menu.
4. The Image menu is now open, so you can select Image Size.
5. You can now see a Resize Image dialogue box which shows you the current image dimensions in pixels. The Constrain Proportions (link on left of dimensions) option is active by default so there is no need to touch this.
6. Because this is a portrait image, you need to adjust the height to the required 1000 pixels. This will automatically adjust the width of the image (which will be less than 1000 pixels, but don't worry we'll adjust that in the next steps.)
7. Click OK.
8. Now that your image is resized, you need to reformat it so that is the square aspect ratio required. Back in the Image menu, click the Canvas Size option.
9. You can now see a Resize Canvas dialogue box which shows you the current image dimensions in pixels. You need to adjust the image width to 1000 pixels so that it is the same as your height.
10. Your image is now the correct dimensions, but you need to apply the white background to fill the space. You can ensure that the Canvas Extension Color is set to White. This should default to white, but if it doesn't you can change this in the dropdown. Note: if you have a lifestyle image as opposed to a white background, you may choose to use something like Content Aware Fill afterwards.
11. Click OK.
12. Your image is now the correct dimensions. To save, click File in the main menu and choose the Export > Export As option.
13. This will open options for saving your image. If it is a photograph, choose JPG with a Quality of 100%, and for flat graphics (e.g. logo) you can choose PNG. We don't need to compress the file now as AB Commerce will do that when you upload it.
14. Click Export and save your image ideally named as the product code, and add _1, _2, etc. for additional images of the same product.
15. Click Save - and you're done!

This is a wide/horizontal image and has a larger width dimension than height.

Resizing a Square Image
In general, you can upload square images as they are - unless they are over 10MB.
